Night Photography
Night photography can be challenging, but with patience and a sturdy tripod it can be rewarding. I like to plan a route before setting out with a quest to take a number of pre planned shots, but quite often the best images are stumbled upon.
Bath Abbey is great subject to photograph at night and adding the light trails from a passing bus adds perspective and scale to the shot. The star effect from the street light is mainly caused by having a narrow aperture. The effect adds to some compositions however you can see in the next shot that by opening the aperture up the effect is minimised.
Night photography does not mean you have to wait until midnight to venture out, some of the best night time shots can be achieved in the hours before sunrise and after sunset. The dark blue skies and odd bright star add depth and atmosphere to your images.
