An editorial eye on The Swan Inn, Fittleworth

Hospitality photography, The Swann Inn

Balancing pace and style on a fast paced hospitality photoshoot

The Brief

I was commissioned by Zanna Westgate Design to photograph The Swann Inn, a boutique hospitality project, shortly before its official re-opening. The brief was to deliver a comprehensive set of editorial-standard images that would serve the designer, the fabric supplier JDH Furnishings, and the Inn’s own marketing team. The visual goal was to capture the warmth and character of the historic building while highlighting the contemporary updates made to the public spaces and guest suites.

The Process

On arrival, we walked the site to establish the order of play. Managing the tempo on a project of this scale is vital, so we set ourselves a clear halfway target of which public areas needed to be captured before lunch. This allowed us to focus on the detailed guest suites in the afternoon without feeling rushed. We reviewed each shot on the iPad, which allowed Zanna to see the results in real-time and ensured that both the spatial flow and the specific fabric details required by JDH were captured to their satisfaction.

The Result

The final gallery provided a diverse visual toolkit that supported a successful launch campaign for the Inn. The images have been featured in several editorial features, including a review in The Sunday Times. This project is a great example of how maintaining a steady tempo on site allows us to deliver a high volume of work without losing the editorial soul of the project. I’m proud of the result and would highly recommend a stay at the Inn if you are in the area!
